Waste & Recycling
MCC’s recycling goal is based on the amount of materials recycled, which can be improved by reducing waste and increasing the amount of materials recycled. MCC's baseline (an average of 2017, 2018, 2019) is a 12% recycling rate, and we have a goal of a 30% recycling rate by 2026.
In 2022, MCC is focusing on getting a better understanding of its waste and recycling stream. Planned actions include:
- Completing bi-annual fullness audits from our waste and recycling haulers
- Working with the business office on purchasing guidelines that reduce waste
- Looking into waste audit options for our three main campuses
MCC’s recycling program accepts plastics #1,2,5, clean paper and cardboard, and metal. Cardboard should be flattened and placed behind the recycling bin. See the recycling and landfill signs for guidance on where items go. Recycling right makes sure that the items in the recycling bin can be turned into something new!
Small electronics and batteries are also accepted Fab Lab boxes located in Building 10 at Fort Campus, the Mahoney lobby of the South campus, and the main office of the Elkhorn office. For large volumes, please contact sustainability@mccneb.edu for pick up.
