Scholarships may reduce the maximum number of work-study hours available for some students. Scholarships can give offer more time to devote to your studies without losing income due to decreased work-study hours. Check with the MCC Financial Aid Office to see how this might impact you.
Scholarship opportunities are open to all students attending or planning to attend Metropolitan Community College.

- Scholarship deadline for 2024 graduating seniors was March 1, 2024. Recent graduates may submit an application by August 1, 2024 to be considered for remaining fall quarter scholarships.

Even if you don’t qualify for other forms of financial aid, completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) helps MCC determine your level of financial need for those scholarships that require it. Remember, “financial need” does not necessarily mean that you have no income—some scholarships are set up to assist those who are working full-time and going to school, too.
Most scholarships do not require an essay and students who do not submit an essay will still be considered for scholarships that do not require one. For those scholarships requiring one, essays can be added to the application any time before application deadline. Scholarship essay topics vary based on the scholarship. The AwardSpring Dashboard will have a list of scholarships requiring follow-up work that may include writing an essay.
Scholarship awards can be used to cover the cost of tuition, books, fees or other supplemental expenses such as equipment or tools. Your award letter from the MCC Scholarships Office will spell this out for you. Scholarships may only be used as designated.
Yes, it is possible to lose a scholarship if a recipient does not follow the guidelines associated with the award. The two most important areas are grade point average (GPA) and hours taken. Some scholarships also require periodic check-ins with academic advisors.
No, award amounts are determined each year by the MCC Foundation Board of Directors. Please plan accordingly, since scholarship payouts may vary from year to year.
Scholarships can reduce the amount of loans you need to meet your expenses. Since loans need to be repaid and scholarships do not, scholarships are definitely worth applying for! Scholarships do not decrease the amount of any Pell grant you receive.
Scholarships are a gift that can reduce the overall cost of attending MCC and do not need to be repaid. Students are required to fill out an application, and each application will be sorted and ranked by criteria specific to each scholarship opportunity. Students selected for each scholarship will be notified of their award by email, and the award will be added to the student’s account once the scholarship has been accepted.

Students are required to write a thank you letter in the scholarship acceptance form that accompanies a scholarship offer. Since scholarships are funded through donations, showing donors how their generosity makes a difference encourages ongoing donations.
Scholarship awards are placed on student accounts approximately three weeks after the start of the quarter. For textbook scholarships, please contact the MCC Financial Aid Office at 531-MCC-2330 at least 48 hours before you plan to pick up your books.
You are only an MCC Foundation Scholar is you are a recipient of a specific scholarship setup through the MCC Foundation. MCC Foundation Scholars receive a blue and white honor cord to wear at graduation.
