Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Outside Plant (CFOS/O)

Description:
  • Learn to identify fiber types; recognize various connectors used in fiber installation; and install, terminate, splice, and properly test installed fiber cable to existing standards. (CFOT)
  • Learn the variety of testing standards, equipment and technological approaches used in fiber network testing and splicing and how to choose among them. (CFOS/T)
  • Learn the importance of high-performance splicing and the points necessary to achieve these splices. (CFOS/S)
  • Learn how to properly identify OSP fiber cabling types, recognize various outside plant closures used in OSP fiber installation, install, prepare, terminate, splice, and properly test and troubleshoot installed OSP fiber cable to existing standards. (CFOS/O)

Estimated Pay Range: $23-$30 per hour

Prerequisite: Able to see, identify and manipulate small items and be able to read and speak the English language. The CFOT is the prerequisite for all other courses, and it must be successfully completed first prior to attending any of the other specialist courses.

Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT)

Overview: Prepares students to take the Certified Fiber Optic Technician test. Presents industry standards governing FTTD (Fiber To The Desk), FTTH (Fiber To The Home) and Distribution Cabling. Students learn to identify fiber types, recognize various connectors used in fiber installation; and install, terminate, splice and properly test installed fiber cable to existing standards.

Prerequisites: High School diploma/GED; ability to read, speak and write English; no felonies on background; valid driver’s license and clean driving record; ability to climb ladders; prior construction or cabling experience preferred but not required.

Dates: Offered three times per year in February, July and November

Certified Fiber Optic Specialist In Outside Plant (CFOS/O)

Overview: Introduces students to industry standards governing the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of outside plant fiber optic cable. Combines lecture sessions and 85 percent hands-on activities. Students learn how to identify fiber cabling types, recognize various outside plant closures used in fiber installation, install, prepare, terminate, splice, and properly test and troubleshoot installed fiber cable to existing standards.

Prerequisites: High School diploma/GED; ability to read, speak and write English; no felonies on background; valid driver’s license and clean driving record; ability to climb ladders; prior construction or cabling experience preferred but not required.

Dates: Offered three times per year in February, July and November

Certified Fiber Optic Specialist In Splicing (CFOS/S)

CFOS/S certification

Overview: Introduces students to high performance splicing and the points necessary to achieve these splices. Classroom activities offer training in both fusion and mechanical splicing of either single or multimode fiber optic cables. Student are responsible for successfully making and testing both mechanical and fusion splices as well as correctly and efficiently installing spliced fibers into splice trays and enclosures.

Prerequisites: High School diploma/GED; ability to read, speak and write English; no felonies on background; valid driver’s license and clean driving record; ability to climb ladders; prior construction or cabling experience preferred but not required.

Dates: Offered three times per year in February, July and November

Overview: Introduces students to the testing and maintenance of fiber optic networks and offers a general, easy-to-understand approach to fiber optic testing standards with little theory and considerable hands-on activities. Students learn the range of testing standards, equipment and technological approaches used in fiber network testing and splicing and how to choose among these.

Description:

At the conclusion of the Bootcamp and Internship students will be able to:

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot smartphone hardware and software issues, including network and operating system maintenance, using industry-standard tools and knowledge of radio frequency technology and component functionality.
  • Perform repairs with industry-standard safety protocols, handling Lithium-Ion batteries, and applying cosmetic grading standards.
  • Assemble and disassemble device components, document repair processes, and maintain privacy standards.
  • Apply customer service best practices and complete basic repairs in both retail and remote technician environments.
  • One-week bootcamp is held in person at the Digital Express. 100-hour Internship hours are scheduled over 8 weeks, 10-15 hours per week, at Reboot Central or other iFixOmaha location.
