Types of Aid

Take advantage of all financial aid resources

Financial aid is money that helps students pay for college or higher education. This funding can come from a variety of sources, and is generally grouped into five categories:

Most grants are sources of financial aid which generally do not have to be repaid as long as you complete your classes. Grants can come from the federal government, state government, from MCC or other organizations. Grants, unlike student loans, do not need to be repaid. MCC offers the following grants, which are not available to those who have already completed a bachelor’s degree.

  1. Federal Pell Grant
  2. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
  3. Nebraska Opportunity Grant

The Federal Work-Study program provides part-time hourly employment for students who demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA®. Work-study can provide financial assistance, job experience, and practical training. It can also help you develop career objectives and build your resume.

To be awarded Federal Work-Study, you must:

  • Demonstrate financial need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year.
  • Eligible for Federal Work-Study on financial aid award notification.
  • Remain in good financial aid standing.
  • Be a current full- or part-time student.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.

Positions are located both on and off campus. A number of reading and math tutoring positions, off-campus and non-profit community service jobs are available. Browse all MCC Federal Work-Study opportunities.

Scholarships are funds provided to students who meet certain criteria or achieve certain academic merits. Most scholarships are provided to students for specific school-related items, such as tuition or books Learn more about scholarships at MCC.

A Federal Student Loan is money borrowed from the federal government to help pay for education expenses, and the funds must be repaid with interest. Taking out loans should be a last option and MCC encourages students to exhaust all other types of financial aid first.
