MCC Fiber Optics Technician Bootcamp

The MCC Fiber Optic Technician Bootcamp is an accelerated training program leading to industry-recognized certifications through the Fiber Optics Association (FOA). Classes involve hands-on instruction, where participants apply industry standards aligned with ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024 International Standard for Certifying Bodies. FOA certification exams are included and administered onsite at the end of each class.

The Bootcamp is delivered in an accelerated format consisting of four classes and certifications over nine consecutive days: Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT); Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing (CFOS/T); Certified Fiber Optics Splicing Specialist (CFOS/S); and Certified Fiber Optic Specialist in Outside Plant (CFOS/O).

This learning format allows participants to complete the program in an accelerated timeline helping them achieve employment goals more quickly. Classes can be taken independently or as a cluster.

Individuals seeking a career in the fiber optics industry and for current fiber optic professionals seeking continued development.

Four-unit bootcamp, over nine days, in person.

Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT) - participants identify fiber types; recognize various connectors used in fiber installation; and install, terminate, splice, and properly test installed fiber cable to existing standards. Prepares participants to take the CFOT (Certified Fiber Optics Technician) exam given and graded at the end of class. Upon completion, participants can effectively and efficiently install, terminate, and test multimode or single-mode fiber optic networks to existing standards.

Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing (CFOS/T) - participants gain the knowledge and skills needed to use the overall spectrum of testing and maintenance of single-mode fiber optic networks and gain an understanding of the equipment used in testing and maintenance. Prerequisite: CFOT course and exam or renewal of FOA membership within the preceding 12 months.

Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Splicing (CFOS/S) - provides an overview of optimal time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) functions in fusion and mechanical splicing of single- or multimode fiber optic cables. Inside- or outside-plant fiber optic cable types are used to provide hands-on training with fiber optic enclosures and splice trays. Prerequisite: CFOT course and exam or renewal of FOA membership within the preceding 12 months.

Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Outside Plant (CFOS/O) - prepares participants to properly identify OSP fiber cabling types; recognize various outside plant closures; and install, prepare, terminate, splice, test and troubleshoot installed OSP fiber cable to existing standards.
